LESSONS FROM THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT'S SPEECH

The emotional speech by the deputy president William Ruto was one of its kind. With a well synthesized theme,it portrayed the expected face of the institution of presidency.

Appearing in an International Criminal Court of law for almost a decade is not a popcorn munch. Worse still, if wrongly accused (at least according to the deputy president). With a well orchestrated system of coached witnesses and a ruthless publicity,no one would have expected the second in power to be so composed in declaring forgiveness.

It was not only patriotic, nationalistic but also great character of the DP who ideally has the ability to manipulate state machinery at his disposal to get his way. To the surprise of the entire nation, he proved to have been a religious leader in his campus days before becoming a politician.

Humility is a rare virtue that he showed as a 'national dad'
(The president was out of the country during the Friday declaration). It is a great source of motivation and lesson.

The 2007/8 bloodbath that saw more than 1000 Kenyans loss their lives due to political intolerance needed a very large dose of reconciliation. The utterances of the deputy president were oil to the wounds and the scars. His choice of words portrayed the desire to have a united nation. It's a move worth commendation and incorporation.

Cohesion as portrayed in the deputy president's campaign to unite the entire nation in the umbrella of one party is a prove that despite the divisive allegations against him,he is committed to join the nation. It is a step that even pundits have no doubt about.

As a nation we ought to borrow the lessons from the deputy head of state and hasten in uniting the nation beyond political and ethnic orientations.
